you will believe in love.

ah.

I'm terribly terrible at keeping this up. Okay, so lately I've just been recycling old music, but I've found a new love.
and prepare for it.

somehow I stumbled on this song:

then it branched from there.
I'd heard of Rufus before, originally from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, about 5 years ago for me… He sang "Complainte De La Butte" and even back then, my 13 year old self thought it was beautiful.

And then I bought one of his hit songs, "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk".

I started yesterday, ravegly searching for interviews and performances.

Interview part one

Interview part two

I love Rufus Wainwright.

14.11.10

Ever Hear This?

It's been a while.
Sorry.

Here you go:

you're welcome.

1.11.10

Amelie

So, I don't have much time. And by that I mean patience. I'm starting to get restless, I've been in this chair so long.
I can't figure out (without going through all the songs again) getting this on a widget right here.

Amelie

This link will take you on THIS PAGE. It won't pop-up like it usually does.
Fair warning.

It's the ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK. Guaranteed.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

28.10.10

HOWSE

(full of songs! yay for me!)
It is widely understood that House is one of the best shows on television.
It is NOT as understood that they are absolute musical geniuses.
How about this, House M.D. Official Soundtrack on Myspace. Who knew? I guess you and me know. Now, at least.

Even the theme song is amazing. Massive Attack's "Teardrop on the Fire"

Let's talk about my favorite two episodes, House's Head & Wilson's Heart.

In Wilson's Heart, they use bands I love.

Example, Iron & Wine.

(people in planes)

And geniously, using José González's cover of "Teardrop on the Fire".

In House's head,

(I freaked out when I saw this, because I know this band!)
!!! (chkchkchk)

Look at that, so many awesome songs, and from only 2 episodes! I'm telling you. FRIGGIN GENIUS. GENIUSES, THEY ARE.

27.10.10

I used to live, live.

I love this band. And Mitchell.
Do you even read this? Does my witty sarcasm make you laugh?
Or do you move straight to the videos and use them as your playlist?
I don't even read what I write. Isn't that sad?
I guess I don't have a long attention span, even for myself.

25.10.10

Well then.

Hey, Kate.

Anyway.

Although I haven't blogged in 10 days, I HAVE pushed myself in the musical community.
How so?

Apparently I'm good. I don't know.

This song is by the beloved Regina. I've always thought to myself "if I ever wanted a good musical warmup that I could sing along to, I'd pick one of her songs."
Full of vocal inflections and lovely… vibratos, I guess they're called, her songs always make me burst out loud and attempt to sing along.

I'm pretty sure I've talked about Ne Me Quitte Pas before. One of my favorites, but hella hard to get a hold on to, basically because Ne Me Quitte Pas is a song that gets covered a lot, and Regina's doesn't sound ANYTHING like the original.

15.10.10

twin suns of Tatooine

Before we get started, here, there's something that needs to be said if you live in my area.
Taken off Grafton's status, itself…
"Go to Bob Evans Friday night November 19th with a coupon to help us get new drums. If you get a coupon from any of us percussionists, 15% of your sales will go to us getting new equipment, not affecting the cost of anything purchased. Our drums are 15 years old and have literally and figuratively taken a beating. Help us out, go get some good food, and allow us to replace our old drums!"

And you can do this by clicking here: COUPON

Now, moving on.

Indie music is something that I'm always drawn to. Scratch that, indie ANYTHING. I could name things here, but I don't feel like putting in that much effort today.

Back to my transition! This man made this song in GarageBand, using his computer's mic.

Mind you: this is a Star Wars song. But it's delicious!

Jeremy Messersmith: Tatooine

If you're a big internet nerd, or like to check in on Yahoo!'s stories once in awhile, you'll know that this song was used in a popular paper Star Wars video.

OH! And I apologize for those of you who have stupid pop-up blockers, because ALL of my links open in new windows.[ I got denied when I was on a friend's computer and couldn't click on a link I had posted on here.]

11.10.10

Did you leave something behind?

So right now, music is definitely appealing to me that have the right lyrics. Lyrics that are fitting in quite closely with my dilemmas right now.
Oh, before I forget!

Thanks to Grafton for posting me yesterday on his facebooks.
He's got so many things, that I'll just list them here:
Formspring
Twitter
YouTube

Back to the blog.
The biggest musical inspiration to me, Julia Nunes
Wait, I've done this Julia rant before!
Moving on, from her latest CD I Wrote These, there's a particular song that I am identifying with.
This song, it just so happens, is quite easy and fun to play on the ukulele.

9.10.10

Make it easy, Take your time.

So, there's this band that's shown up a lot lately in my life. Grizzly Bear.
Guarantee that if you watch t.v., you've heard of their biggest hit on iTunes.
My Brit Lit group had to decide on a song to re-do and make it fit the Canterbury Tales… Okay, regardless, one of the members showed us this video:

But even before that, I was shown this video in my comp. class because "its so weird".
But let it be known that I like it:

Tell me I'm not wasting time on you.

Oh, music. You have a way of explaining everything.

On my part:

On his part: Tell Me- Miccoli

I know that I've probably talked about that song a million times before, but this is just how I think the music is fusing with my life right now. It's pretty crazy.
I am kinda bummed, because I can't find a way to put the other song up here...
If you want "his part", you can email the band [mail@miccoli.co.uk] and tell them who you are and where you're from in the subject box. [ex: Lorrin H. Ohio. is basically what I put.]

Here's an idea. I'm so sad though! I don't have enough time to find an alternative way of putting on the song right now, because this is mostly an unknown band and this is their newest single… there weren't even lyrics! I did this myself! Here they are:

I was fooled by the fact thought alone that you lie.
But the fool isn't here, just a man who looks like.
With my head in my hands and my heart on my sleeve.
Tryin' my best, so let me be.

Feels like I'm wastin' my time.
Tell me I'll stand up and take it.
Feels like you've given it your best shot.
Tell me, I'm not wasting time on you.
I'm not wasting time on you.
I'm not wasting time on…
You. oh oh oh you.

Excuses have got no more words to rely on.
I was led to belive, all along, it's what I'd done.
With my heart in my hands, far away from my sleeve,
Tried my best now, so let me be.

Feels like I'm wastin' my time.
Tell me I'll stand up and take it.
Feels like you've given it your best shot.
Tell me, I'm not wasting time on you.
I'm not wasting time on you,
I'm not wasting time on..
You.

And it feels, I'm the last
Place you don't run to.
And it feels, I'm the last
Place you don't run to.
Run to.
Give me your best shot.

Feels like I'm wastin' my time.
Tell me I'll stand up and take it.
Feels like you've given it your best shot.
Tell me, I'm not wasting time on you.
I'm not wasting time on you,
I'm not wasting time on..
You. oh no no, you.

I'll figure how to upload later.

25.9.10

Tell me your favourite things.

Ahh. Something I've been waiting for a long time.

Picture this. A girl, in Best Buy for the fifth time, flipping through the "T's". Looking, hoping, and getting pissed.
"They have Dan Black? How can they not have this?!!?"
"They have Paper Tonuges! How can they not have THIS?!!?"

And I had searched, and searched at my teeny town's Best Buy. Alone, with my brother, and finally, with my dad. He wanted to stop in, so I went along with him. And this time, I decided to look behind some other dumb band's tab and… dun dun DUN. There it was.

I literally had never been more excited to see those cat's eyes in my life.

It was Two Door Cinema Club's Tourist History.

So. Frickin. Excited.
You have no idea.

19.9.10

Let down your hair, let down your hair.

Newest obsession? Passion Pit.
Album of the month? In Rainbows by Radiohead.

Playlist?

Just a few songs that have been on my mind. Another thing is that I rediscovered Jason Mraz's We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. I love that album.

13.9.10

Math in Music.

I've heard such outrageously used fractions such as:
radiohead>coldplay
used in the internet world. I don't necessarily agree. But I will share an experience that led me to buy Radiohead's album "In Rainbows" because of my love of Bodysnatchers.
It's a longer story, involving me creeping on a junior's facebook pictures and being led to a youtube video of that song. I fell in love and bought the CD today. I am pretty excited.

Obviously, since the only song I know well is bodysnatchers, it's my favorite so far. But I haven't even got through the 10 song album, that's how soon ago I bought it.

11.9.10

Come on over, over.

I'd like to say that there's a really good reason why I haven't blogged. I'd also like to say that people out there were concerned and lost at my absence. Nope.

But I do have some songs.

Basically, I just have a band.
YACHT

I love this band. I may have talked about it before. But I don't have much time right now, I need to go finish having my life.

Blahhhhh.

31.8.10

Come With Me

Okay, it's been awhile. I've been actually busy. It's crazy.
But here's a song that I've been listening to a lot lately.

16.8.10

The Girl

Hey, kids! It's been awhile. Mainly because I got so sick of my old music and then I was focused on new music and that took effort and then I found too much music that I couldn't take it all and still need to learn my new Mae CD and get my This Will Destroy You CD. I don't remember if I've talked about these already, but I'm too tired and I want to finish this post quickly so I can go to bed.

Along with those two new CD's… I cracked and went to Best Buy and bought [after 2 days of searching through incorrectly labeled bands (I mean, OWL CITY and SKY SAILING are NOT the same thing!!!!)] OK Go's Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.

But that's not what this post is about. This post is about a song that is hella fun to cover [on ANYTHING, not just the uke, mind you, even a cappella] and has grown on me.

I remember listening to it and thinking "Cute… but it's not AMAZING."

Now, it's the other way around. But not really. "AMAZING. CUTE!!!"

Here.

8.8.10

We've still got time!

Oh wow, delay. It helps to have internet, though. Right now, this was typed while I was still wireless-less. Frustrating. Anyway, in my extreme boredom, I was left with what I had that didn't need internet. And so, iTunes, Photobooth and iMovie became my best friends.

I was listening to the Once soundtrack after it came up on shuffle. How thick am I? Look at that. Do you see that? I always thought it was tracks or a trolley rail. Nope. They're walking down a guitar. I didn't even notice. I don't even know what made me notice. I don't know why I didn't notice. I have the physical CD. How could I not see that?! Anyway, I just thought that was interesting. I get it… but then I don't. Is it supposed to be about their bonding over his street-singing? She can't play the guitar.

Oh, if you haven't seen the movie Once… go see it. It's amazing. Then you'd understand why I don't give names. Throughout the entire movie, you don't catch their names. At least, I don't think you do. In the credits, both Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova are listed only as "Boy" "Girl". Interesting take. I really liked the indie feel of this movie. It felt real, as if one of the boy's friends was just taping him because he had a camera. And that's the best kind. That's what drew me to the Office. Which, I've noticed, is so unrealistic now. It's trapped itself in realism with the mockumentary. What camera crew follows a woman into the hospital after she's just had her child. Or follows a couple back to their new house… or to their wedding… or any wedding? Yes, I know I'd love to see the JAM story unfold, but I highly doubt the people making the documentary would, too.

Okay, enough about the Office. But basically, that's my little rants. Phew, I'm done.

2.8.10

New Music

First post of the month! Woo.

And… Since I've been on vacation for a month, and before that I had to supply 5+ hours of music for the college roadtrips [with no swears], I've run out of music.
When I say this, I don't mean it literally. But I like to add to my ever-growing CD collection every time I hit a slow music spot. So, I'm searching.
And searching. I don't want any mainstream anymore. Just something I can listen to and love and have friends to recommend to. How is 3OH!3 still in the alternative in iTunes?! They're not even close to that genre now. I don't really think they ever were.
My First Kiss, pshh!! Get off the #1 spot already!!

Anyway, I found some on Myspace, which is a lot easier to say than do, realized I'd found some already on iTunes. So now, my pal Grooveshark is letting me listen to the whole albums of all and help me decide which lyrics I want to learn and have forever.

Andddd I'm blogging on my stomach, which is uncomfortable, so I don't have strength to link anything. It's not like it's hard to find Grooveshark or Myspace or 3OH!3.

But I WILL link these albums I'm considering.

I found these on iTunes, which means I liked the looks of the album covers:

Deas Vail's Birds & Cages.
Mae's Singularity.
Lights's Acoustic [EP].

I found these on Myspace, which means they were on the top 50 "alternative charts":

The Audition's Self-Titled Album. [I thought it was clever]
Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
Portfolio Days.

Finally, thanks to Andrew for bringing me to this: This Will Destroy You.
This is, from what I could listen to so far, an entirely instrumental band. And I like that. So, this is up there on my list. The EP they did called "Field Studies" cost $13, but there's only 5 songs. So… thanks Best Buy for ripping me off. Probably cheaper on the website.

Oh jeez, no pictures today! Just words!

30.7.10

And they were all yellow.

I'm using this song in a little project I'm working on. This is one of my favorite Coldplay songs. Older bands need to get with the times, man. I don't see an offical website. That's strange.

Anywho, take a listen, I really like this song lots.

26.7.10

Does it ever get better? Can you really see the future, or just predict the weather?

Oh my. Listening to the radio has brought me back.

Especially when they play Smash Mouth.

Smash Mouth was the 2nd CD I even owned. The first one was, of course, *NSYNC. [I don't think they have a website.]

Besides that, I owned their 3rd album, self-titled "Smash Mouth". Thank God for websites like grooveshark, because now I can listen to it.

And let me tell you… I love this album. It's such a fat chunk of my childhood. I can see myself listening to it in my CD player. That thing skipped. But… Lorrin's childhood reminiscing aside, I just thought I'd talk about this band.
I don't know much of Smash Mouth's other songs, but this album I can still remember most of the lyrics, even though it was years ago since I last listened to it.

Actually, when I get home, I have to find that CD. 4 moves later, and everything is still in boxes. Hm….

Just for the record. My favorite then, and now is Sister Psychic. I still know almost every word.

24.7.10

We will be victorious. So come on!!

Woo! So, a song that's been stuck in my head recently is Muse's [thank god, not OK Go] Uprising.
Heard this bitty on the radio. I really like it. Really really.

Another song that I like [more of the swinging-like motion of the chorus] is DMB in a live concert in 2009, I think, singing a cover of The Zombies's Time of the Season.

I've listened to more radio this month than I did in 6 months back home.

22.7.10

Hey, Mr. DJ, can you turn the music DOWN?

I know I said no more OK Go, but I just can't help myself. These lyrics are so amazingly lovely.

While You Were Asleep- OK Go:

In the shallowest part of the night while you quietly slept,
I lay here and I counted the hours to the sound of your breath.

Can't you love me?
Can't you love me how I want, please?

I went walking down on Second Street through the leaves and the clutter.
In the pale yellow sodium light, nothing has any color.

Can't you love me?
Can't you love me how I want, please?

On another note, a song [and a free one awhile back] that I never thought I would like was on the radio here it Georgia. Again. And again. Several times, actually. And I always feel the need to call out "I know this song!" because it's not well-known. At least I thought it wasn't.

High Road by Broken Bells.

It was on the "soft rock" station.

On another, nother note, this website has a new address thingy. bit.ly/lorrin. Why "lorrin"? Because that's my name, silly random questioner.

And moving to another, final subject, today at the Botanical Garden in Atlanta, the DJ there horrified me. The first time I heard his disc jockey-ing, it was a calming mix of Indian-like music with a techno beat. The second time we could hear him, he'd crudely mashed up Journey's hit Don't Stop Believin' with Lady Gaga's [that's right Lady Gaga] hit… Just Dance.
What?! Not even close in beats, but that's besides the point.
First, you would hear a story about a girl and boy taking a midnight train. Then, Lady Gaga would rudely interrupt with how she got so trashed, she didn't remember flipping her shirt inside-out.

Atlanta, you can do better.

20.7.10

HOPE

Free iTunes. Luckily, this song makes me happy. In a sad way.

19.7.10

14.7.10

Here it goes, again. *

Help me please.

I'll listen to almost anything [key words: listen] but there are two exceptions.
Rap and country.

And, unfortunately in Atlanta, since it's the south, they're pretty big on the latter.
I'll put up with it for my family, but my brain freaks myself out by trying to sing along in my head. I've never heard the songs before, but it'll try to sing along to the chorus or something.

So, I'll sing in my head something else.
Since my recent fix [obviously] is OK Go, I'll sing one of their songs.
Problem is, I only know about 3 entirely.
This is why I either need to get back home and buy Oh No & Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.
Or I need to somehow find an iTunes giftcard here, because my dad sent me here with a total of $40 for the month.

We all know Oh No's album for the famous "Here it Goes Again".
And the more I watch the music videos on YouTube, the more I want the cd's.

Current song obsession with OK Go? Here, watch it for yourself.

I need to get off this subject. DAMIAN KULASH. I know.

7.7.10

I choose you, cherry. *

It's late-ish, but I forgot to talk about this:

"Pick Up the Phone"

The single was [free!] downloadable on iTunes last week, I think.
Can anyone tell me who this reminds you of?

I can only get: Vampire Weekend.
"You're so coOoOl."

But there's more. And I can't put my finger on it. It's been slightly bugging me.

Anddd, I'm in Atlanta. So anytime you see a "ATL", I'm referring to Atlanta.

INTRODUCTION

Who needs a YouTube!?

Just to clear a few things up:
Yes, this was late… it's now, actually.
Yes, I was tired.
andd Yes, this'll be done more often.

4.7.10

OKay!! GO!!! *

Ah, it's been a few days.

Anyway, back to my latest obsession:
Damian Kulash

Who?
Maybe you know him from his band's treadmill video.
Maybe you know him from playing with the Notre Dame band.
Maybe you know him from his Rube Goldberg machine.
Maybe you know him from his yellow outfit.

Maybe, you love this cutie to pieces.

That's right. He's from Ok Go.

If you didn't at least get the treadmill one, you need to get out more.
[And by get out, I mean watch more viral videos.]

But I was thinking about it, because I was with a friend yesterday. I was playing my current favorite "End Love".
"Who is this?" -Vicky asked.
"Ok Go."
"REALLY?!?!"
"… yeah. I know. They're actually good."

And what I mean by that is, the super-smash hit "Here It Goes Again" was huge at my school when it came out. And, since this band is NOT a one-hit wonder band, people… people don't seem to expect that they have talent. They expect to hear some form of "Here It Goes Again".

I'm not sure why.

I've talked about Ok Go again, but I want to get their latest album "Of the Blue Colour Of the Sky".
I need to become famous and open a P.O. box so people can send me this stuff.

30.6.10

I HAVE FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES

Like the title said, I have friends in high places.
My most recently renewed friendship with a certain Kate Oman has led to good things.
She manages a band. A band called Goodnight Jersey.
And you guys know how I love free songs on iTunes, well she's giving me their whole album.

Kate Oman, I love you!

She's so my music twin, it's scary. Same tastes, feelings, genres, ideas.

Once I get the album, I'll review it. I expect it to be good.

28.6.10

Panic! At The Disco

Blogging on the road. When I actually have a spare, breif moment of time. And I love how my phone doesn't pick up on all of the letters I type. Double checking my work's always fun. Anyway, super-awesome roadtrip with my dad, 5 hours in the car to visit colleges. And I had to provide the music. For 5 hours. Now, normally this isn't a challenge, but finding music I like versus music that doesn't contain swears... It's a tough thing. But one thing we both like is Panic! At The Disco. Old AND new, it's a delight. I love singing along. This is when I realized that Panic was a good band. Stupid Ryan and John having "musical differences"!! I mean, they (and Brendon) are the best members. Just putting it out there, I don't like Spencer. Brendon is sexy and funny and a good singer (in my opinion, despite his lack of formal training, which is slightly obvious), John is hilarious and a cool guy that I want to meet, and Ryan's just adorable. But when Spencer isn't looking like a girl with a penciled in mustache, I'm sure he contributes to the band. I mean he did form it. John replaced that one guy, whose name escapes me, whom the group later bashed as being terrible.

I'm sorry, I'd have links to all of this, but I can only open one Internet window at a time on the iPhone.

24.6.10

DON'T JUDGE A BAND BY IT'S ALBUM COVER.

Have I talked about my addiction?
I haven't? Sorry, it's just so personal for me.

My name is Lorrin and I'm addicted to music.
I love how the auto-correct just went insane with my name. Just sayin'.

Anyway, it's pretty bad. I just went out and bought 2 new cd's. W00t!

And... I don't even feel like blogging about the other one, because I'm pretty sure that I'll end up talking wayyy more about this one.

I like it already. [Just click on the cover to go to the band's webpage. don't judge a band by it's album cover!!!]

22.6.10

Such Great Heights

That's it. Mental note to future me. No more buying/getting into remixes and cover songs before knowing the original.

I've talked about Iron & Wine's cover of Postal Service's song "Such Great Heights" before.

Well, while I'm waiting for my iPhone to receive the osi 4 or whatever [it's been at least 2 hours] I'm stuck on GrooveShark trying to think of songs.

I listened to Postal Service's original "Such Great Heights". I felt almost trippy. It went sooo fast compared to Iron & Wine's.
The same thing happened to me when I was listening to the remix of Lisztomania versus the original.

I found 2 bands while I was at the Hot Topic listening station, but I wrote them down in my phone, which I can't get to. Ridic.
So, for now, I'll just count down the hours until I get to go see Toy Story 3.

It's 3 hours, if you were wondering. :D

19.6.10

MY "Final Fantasy" IS...

Time for international music!
My all-time favorite country is Japan. Though I've never been there, the culture, language and EVERYTHING interests me. I'm currently learning Japanese, and I don't care if my friends tell me its the most difficult language and I'm crazy, I love it.

So, today I'm going to give a little thing on, you guessed it, Final Fantasy 13. Only because I briefed on it yesterday, and I just want to dive in a little further.

I buy all my songs, and don't download any for free because I know that if I was an artist I would want my revenue for a service that I provided. And since I don't listen to big-time music people, the smaller you are, the more each download counts. Sure, if the band offers a free single, like Vampire Weekend did, then that's okay, that's their choice.

But while all my friends used limewire, I stayed true to iTunes.

Okay, back to the whole reason for the title of this post!!!

I would love, love, LOVE for iTunes to carry international songs. The video I posted yesterday, that's not on iTunes or the American version of the game. No, apparently Leona Lewis's "Hands" or something is at the end. I don't even LIKE Leona. She's... Well, not to be rude, but we used to call her Leon Lewis when she hit her big streak with "Bleeding Love". Just because she kinda sorta looked like a man, BUT I DIGRESS [again].

I DO have a chinese song that I bought from iTunes. If you've ever seen the GE commercial... Here, I'll just put it here:

Kudos to the people who cut up this song, because it's actually only about 1 minute long.
What's the song? Cao Fang's "In the Summer" followed by some Chinese characters.

Anyway, the whole point of this was that I wish that iTunes carried more authentic Japanese artists so I could buy them and install them and be happy.

Okay, time to go swimming!

18.6.10

NEW LAYOUT

Eh. I like this one. I used some skillz. Anyway, if you also look to your right, there's a list of songs that I'm listening to/hearing, if you ever need a quick music fix, also a little thing under it for easy following :0, and the archives.

Also, all new links will open in new windows, instead of the window that you're in, just incase you want to keep my blog up!
Let's use... Google as an example.

old link: Google.
new link: Google.

I know this has nothing to do with anything, just a little update.

And, here's a song from the Japanese version of my favorite game, Final Fantasy 13 [xiii].

17.6.10

End Love

Heyhihelllo.
I personally love Ok Go's music videos, whether they're the official or ones they've done for fun. Their YouTube channel is something that always keeps me entertained.

And their new video for the song "End Love" is awesome, yet again. But instead of linking it, or buying it for 2 bucks off of iTunes, Ok Go is having a contest. You can download their video for free. Annnddd, if you do that, and upload it to your Facebook page, you get a chance to win an iPad. But, I don't want the iPad, I just want to put the video up.

If you want the video for yourself, or the chance to win the iPad, click right on over here.

I think I love you.

Right now, for some reason, slow and romantic-like songs are giving me hope right now. They aren't romantic always, just slow and... songs that carry you and calm you.

Here's [the first] playlist of what I'm talking about.

Iron & Wine- Such Great Heights
Bright Eyes- First Day of My Life
Dashboard Confessional- Stolen
Chase Coy- Basically anything he sings.
Ingrid Michaelson- The Way I Am
Paolo Nutini- Last Request

Plus, some of these boys aren't too bad to look at, too.

Paolo Nutini

Conor Oberst

Chris Carraba [I always thought he was in a wetsuit]

Chase Coy. oh god I love him.

16.6.10

Things that bother you, never bother me...

Today, my grandpa said my hair made me look like Tiny Tim.
If you don't know what he looks like,

Thanks, Grandpa.

And he helped come to that conclusion by deducing that since I have curly, dark hair and play the ukulele... Oh! I must be Tiny Tim!

No.

If you don't know who this saucy fellar is, think again. You may recognize this little tune.

Wait, where is that from? I've heard it before...

Good observation, random viewer. It was in the first episode of Spongebob Squarepants, where he feeds all of the sardines with his super spatula.

Take this sinking boat and point it home. *

Wow, have I kept up with this every day? I need a life. I mean, it's not like I've not been doing things, because I was busy all day. But right now my brother is making me stay up with him because he's playing Super Mario Galaxy. It's 11:46, and I know to you hardcore-ers, that's not bad at all, but I don't care what anyone thinks, I go to bed the same time during the week as the weekend. It ranges from 10:30 to 11. Usually, rarely 11. I'm playing a song I ranted earlier about so maybe he gets tired and lets me sleep.

Ten music points if you can identify the song in the title of this blog without using Google.

Now, because of Bonnaroo, [I know ENOUGH'S ENOUGH, ALREADY, but it's relevant] Because of Bonnaroo, I downloaded a Phoenix remix of "Lisztomania" and thought it was awesome. I didn't even think to look at the original. Then, I was surfing through ukulele tabs @Ukehunt and saw the tab for the original Lisztomania. So I bought it on iTunes.

That's when I realized I have a music addiction. This blog proves it. I mean, whose to say anyone's reading? But really, I don't care if only one person reads this. Because that's all it takes. I want to share my music tastes and be original and talk about something that I do for a large portion of the day. So I am.

I'm going to end up buying the whole album on iTunes. :/ I like to have the physical cd, I think it's better.

RELAXATION, PLEASE.

When the family is driving you crazy, like mine is [my three younger cousins came up from Georgia and my aunt just left them here for the day... again] the only thing I can really do to get away from them while still staying in their view [so they don't light the house on fire] is listen to music.

A particularly calming remix of an already good song is "Hide and Seek 2" by Imogen Heap. Both me and my friend Joey had each version of the song, and it was a pretty awesome moment when we found out just how similar in music tastes we really are.

Hide and Seek 2 was put on the "Songs for Tabet" album with pretty awesome artists, like Regina Spektor.

It's so calming and relaxing. Imogen Heap paints you a picture if you choose to listen, or just let the sound of the song on the whole relax you.

Joey had actually done an in-depth interpretation on the song for a class, and when I read it, the song made so much more sense to me.

The smallest one, Lucy, who's about 6, likes to touch everything.

Megofna? *

Time to incorporate two of my favorite things into this next blog post. Well, really my three fav. things. Music, YouTube, and ukulele.

I just thought this guy deserved way more recognition.

Now, as I usually am when discovering cool YouTube things, I'm not sure how I got here, but I ended up watching a guy play Hey There Delilah on ukulele.
He's got SUPERSATURATED talent.

Here's the link for the video itself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7bsfRal38Q&feature=related

His name is Shawn Megofna and he sings better than most singers out there.

Here's his channel.
Here's his myspace.

I like him.

SHAKEDOWN

Okay, so today was the last day of school and it just so happens that I went to my first grad party today as well.
He lives in another town, but anyway... His dad and my dad go to this one cover band's concerts all the time. The band's called Shakedown. I have a shirt from them.

Anyway, one of the main guys was there. Frank.
Mark and Frank deep in the groove.
That's him on the right.

My brother got him to sign a playing card just as he walked out of the door. My camera was in the car, so I didn't get a picture with him.

This band mainly does covers, but it's a local band, so I don't expect much. He learned that I play ukulele and he asked me something like "Are you really into music?"

Yes, Frank. I'm pretty into it.

[and YES, I'M WATCHING BONNAROO RIGHT NOW! I missed The Young Veins & She & Him because of my darn previous engagements. :(]

ON THE GO

Am I a bad Panic fan? I downloaded a free single off The Young Veins latest album "Take a Vacation" because I wanted to check them out, since they're apparently good enough to be at Bonaroo this year. [I know, enough about friggin Bonnaroo] and I'm wondering if I'm letting Brendon Urie down by actually LIKING the song.

Well, this is a blog-on-the-go, and since blogging on my iPhone isn't easy, I'm going to cut this short.

BONNAROO 2010

NOTE: this is a Bonnaroo blog post. If you don't want to hear Bonnaroo ten million times and what it is and it's awesomeness,

go somewhere else.

Yep, that's right. Bonnaroo. For the past week, but more for the past few days, I've been spazzing about Bonnaroo. I've been looking up and reading EVERYTHING on the Bonnaroo website, and even though I'm not going this year, I'm going to try to plan next year.

This year, Bonnaroo has 15 bands that I want to listen to. AND, it's not only a music festival. It's a music&arts festival. It's my kind of place.

You might be thinking, 15 bands? Please.
Guess again. Straight off the Bonnaroo lineup:
DMB, Kings of Leon, Weezer, Phoenix...
Oh, screw this. Check it out for yourself..

Bonnaroo Artists

Iron & Wine were there last year along with Julia Nunes. She's back again this year, along with...

SHE & HIM.
Yeah.

So basically, if you can't go, like me, and you want to see it, you can stream it live on your computer thanks to YouTube. Technically, it's sponsored by the 2011 Ford Fiesta.

This sucks for me because I'M IN SCHOOL. My last day is tomorrow, and Julia's performance [which is the first one] is going on around 12:30 and I'm taking a Spanish final at that time! I could if it was around 8 am or even 2 pm, but nope. It's during one of the only two periods that I CAN'T stream it.

And, I can't even access it on my school's computer because it's on YouTube. And my stupid school has that blocked. Arg!! I'll find a way!

HAVE I LOST YOU? AMERICAN MOUTH? **

I see people in their cars. Don't they enjoy what they listen to? It doesn't look like it. I feel like most of the time, I'm the only one singing along to whatever I have when I go places. Why not enjoy yourself? I know that I'm going to be ninety and still singing out loud to the music. That's what music is, really. It's a elongation of what you're thinking.

One song that gives me goosebumps only when I listen to it, and not sing it, is "Such Great Heights" sung by Iron & Wine. Heard of them? I hope that when you think of this band you don't think of one of the worst interpretations of a book series, a.k.a. Twilight movie saga. I hate everything in that stupid movie. Though the soundtrack is pretty okay with me, since New Moon uses Ok Go, I'm pretty sure.
Still don't get it? "Flightless Bird, American Mouth". I liked the song and was extremely surprised when I heard "Such Great Heights" and found out why the band Iron & Wine sounded so familiar.
This song is just so precious. I love the singer, he's got such a... voice that draws you in, I guess you could say.

Even though this is Postal Service's original song, I love Iron & Wine's version.

Oh wow, I'm so absent-minded. I'm not 16 anymore, I've been 17 for over a month! I guess time just flies by.

A friend of mine brought his iPod with him and showed me his newest songs.
All Katy Perry. All live.

And I gotta say... She's good. I don't like her too much because she's constantly being compared to Zooey Deschanel and I like Zooey wayyyy better. In music, looks... everything.

And She & Him are coming to Columbus in July I think. GLEE!!

JAAAAAAA

Let me say a little thank you to Julia Nunes, famous YouTuber. Even though lately her videos have been coming in less and less she still brings a smile to my face. She inspired me to play the guitar, and then the ukulele. She also brought me to sooo many bands, such as Ben Folds, Say Anything, and Band of Horses.

She's got a lot of haters, but she doesn't care one bit. I'm actually looking at my ukulele right now and thinking about how she says that she doesn't look up the tabs to anything, she just figures it out. There is NO way I'd be able to do that.

And, she's gotten recognition. Ben Folds saw her cover of Gone and asked her to tour with him. She does play it different than the chords out there, but, hell, it works.

Anyway, her latest album "I Wrote These" came out awhile ago, and I want one. I want the physical cd, I think that's always so much better.

Let's talk about that for a second. I know iTunes is running out the need for cd's, but isn't it better to hold it in your hands? Plus, you don't always get the insert.
I, personally, would like to have shelves of cd's, all backed up on my computer, but there regardless.
I don't listen to the radio, so cd's are essential.
Like reading a book on the iPad. I'd much rather have the book itself right there in front of me because even then, you could read it in school or on an airplane, and you can't do that with the iPad. So why neutralize that option?

I swear, if everything's electronic-ized in the upcoming years, I'm gonna go insane.

'CAUSE SHE CAN TELL THAT IT'S A WINDING SPIRAL CASE

A band worth mentioning is Freelance Whales.weathervanes
They released their first album back in April. People say it's a mashup of Postal Service and Noah. iTunes had one of their biggest hits "Hannah" as a discovery download, so that's how I found them.
I have this iTunes gift card I just found myself in possession of and I'm not sure if I should go for buying up single songs, or go for finishing off an album. If I do choose the latter, Freelance Whale's Weathervanes will definitely be in the running.

I actually had this song playing in my car and it got some positive feedback. I lovelovelove it so much, it's such a cool band.

THERE'S A FORK IN THE ROAD

Marina and the Diamonds.
One of my favorite Brits. Beside Susie.

I originally discovered her music through iTune's free song download. I had seen that TeenVogue had done a page on her, so I downloaded it. Totally worth it. She is one of my new favorites.
I love two of her songs.
"I AM NOT A ROBOT" & "MOWGLI'S ROAD"

Currently, I am singing Mowgli's Road lyrics in my head virtually 24/7. "There's a fork in the road, I do as I am told, and I don't know don't know don't know don't know who I wanna be."
Ignore the "cuckoo"-ing and listen to this.

INTRO// INTO THE WOODS

heyhihello.
That's my favorite greeting. And, it's a band, too.

This is my new blog! I've finally decided on a subject that I love soso much. This is where I'll be posting songs and bands that I discover and my thoughts and feelings on them.
First off,
After we watched this in my drama class, I can't get this song outta my head.

Agony
Composed by Steven Sondheim
From the movie/musical: Into The Woods

"Agony, far more painful than yours."
Brotherly love.
